Bargaining Update

Garfield Education Association

Fulfilling The Promise

Negotiations between the GEA and the Garfield Board of Education begin this Thursday, November 30 at 8:30 am in the Garfield Professional Development Room. The GEA Bargaining Team met this summer to begin preparation for bargaining and again several times this fall to discuss our surveys and current conditions at Garfield. The Team also attended Bargaining Boot Camp Training in September for training on best practices in bargaining. The Bargaining team listened carefully to members and crafted proposals that would improve our ability to advocate for students and teachers. Thank you to all who shared their stories and ideas with the team.We met today for our final preparations, and we have four issues to take to the board for a contract with a one-year duration.

On Thursday the Bargaining Team, comprised of Ellen Rybak, Tom Bartz, Erin Miller, Chris Forgacs, Katie Bockmuller, along with Missy Petrie as an observer, will meet with members of the board from 8:30 am until an undetermined time. Since we are bargaining “on campus”, members are asked to wear green and gray as a show of solidarity. We expect to work late and request that if anyone would like to donate potluck dinner, that it be dropped off at the PD room prior to 5 p.m. Your dinner donations would be greatly appreciated by the team.
