GARFIELD EDUCATION ASSOCIATION
CONSTITUTION

$15K or $25K
Which one is right for you?

The deadline for the current early incentive is reapidly approaching (April1), and you must complete an Application for Retirement incentive Plan form. This must be picked up at the District Office and turned in by the deadline along with a copy of the most recent STRS statement verifying your years of service.

Back to the original question about who is eligible. This year of the contract is a "catch all" year, meaning anyone completing 30 or more, 25/55, etc. of STRS service qulifies for the $25K. Also, those of us who will have reached 30, 25/55, etc during the life of this current contract must complete the form as well to earn the $25K incentive for retirement rather than $15K.

If you believe you will retire during the life of this contract, by all means, submit the paperwork before the deadline, because you're not obligated to "go out" when you submit the application.

Postings, they are coming!

As some of the retirment people have begun to have resignations accepted and subsequent posting begin showing up, it is time to remind all that if you belieive there may be an interest in the position, put a bid form (from building secretary) through before the deadline date. You may withdraw your name after the deadline but not submit.

December/April Reports:Special vs. Non-Renewal

During the Evaluation process, anything that can be considered negative can and should be rebutted in the document. Be sure you all use that opportunity to respond to potentially damaging information on the evaluation instrument. If you don't feel comfortable with the process grab a building rep to help. These rebuttals do NOT have to be done at the time of the post-conference to be put into the document.

The Same Old Song and Dance

This year, as in many others, it is time to remind members that the Association needs you to take an active role in the "business" by getting into the elected offices positions for next year.

The "Long Timers" of previous years are soon done with their careers making it necessary for others to pick up the responsibility.

Reminders

As the close to the current year nears, just a reminder to all that they should make sure they get on a building principal's end of the year "Wish List". This includes areas/grades you would have an interest in teaching the coming year if the opportunity presents itself.

Also, refresh yourself with Posting Language in the new contract with regard to openings in the month of August.
